Literacy at the CORE
Based on early childhood education research and studies, The Malvern School’s literacy components are integrated into student’s everyday lives through daily lesson plans, curriculum themes, and more. Our fully integrated curriculum immerses young children in an environment that fosters curiosity and stimulates the natural process of learning to read. From Infancy to Pre-Kindergarten and beyond, The Malvern School helps build a strong foundation that sets children up for future success.
MONTHLY CURRICULUM THEMES
Each month, The Malvern School implements age-specific activities and lessons based around a central theme. These themes are emphasized through finger plays, reading, writing, art experiences, spoken word and music to create a full understanding for the child.
LITERACY CELEBRATION DAY
Several times a year, The Malvern School hosts a special day to celebrate our love of literacy. Literacy Celebration Day is a school-wide event in which all activities and lesson plans are based around one story. The day is an exciting and fun way to learn through play!
STREAM PRE-K ENRICHMENT
Although most are familiar with STEM or STEAM programs, at The Malvern School we take it a step further through our STREAM – Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics program for Pre-K students. We believe enriching lives with opportunities to explore all subjects through various activities is the best approach to developing the whole child.
YOUNG AUTHORS’ PROGRAM
Each spring, Pre-K and Kindergarten-aged students have the opportunity to explore concepts of language development, early reading skills, art experiences, writing, and public speaking through our Young Authors’ program. Over the course of several weeks, students develop their very own storybook from concept to picture book creation. The entire experience is culminated on Young Authors’ Night- a special evening where children share their stories with their friends and family.
