Malvern Brightens the Holidays for Neighbors in Need

At The Malvern School, being part of the local community goes well beyond our walls. With the support of our staff, teachers and Malvern families, we’re proud to make a difference by giving back and helping to brighten the holidays for our neighbors in need. Read on to learn about how some of our Schools are supporting their communities – and how you can help!

Blue Bell
This month, The Malvern School of Blue Bell is hosting a food drive to benefit Colonial Neighborhood Council, which has a food cupboard, serves Meals on Wheels and provides emergency aid to families in Conshohocken, Plymouth, Bridgeport, Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill. In January, we will host a coat drive for Cradles to Crayons, and will later run a program to send military care packages to our troops.

Downingtown
The Malvern School of Downingtown is sponsoring 50 children from the CYWA, anonprofit organization that provides services to Chester County families and individuals who are affected by homelessness, hunger and addiction. Families choose children to sponsor from an Angel Tree in the School’s foyer and donate items from their wish list. This is the 10th year Downingtown has sponsored local families.

Frazer
The Malvern School of Frazer is collecting canned goods for the Hope Food Bank located in Drexel Hill. This is our second year working with the food bank, and we’re looking forward to topping last year’s donation!

Glen Mills
Each year, The Malvern School of Glen Mills participates in the Angel Tree Project in conjunction with Bethany Christian Services, a global nonprofit organization that brings families together and keeps families together through adoption, foster care and pregnancy counseling services. This year, we are sponsoring more than 100 children – and within one week, all of the tags were taken!

Lionville
The Malvern School of Lionville ran a “Strike Out Hunger” food drive the week before Thanksgiving. Through this effort, we were able to donate several full bags of groceries to Chester County Food Bank!

Malvern
This year The Malvern School of Malvern is hosting a toy drive for Toys for Tots. This program, run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, distributes toys to children who are less fortunate. We are accepting new, unwrapped toys to donate until December 10.

Marlboro
The Malvern School of Marlboro is hosting a Toys for Tots drive for a third year! Last year we collected over 100 toys for children in the area who might otherwise not receive a special gift during this season of giving. During the drive, parents are asked to bring their child shopping to select an item or two for the toy collection so they can be a part of the giving experience.

Medford
From November 20-30, The Malvern School of Medford collected donations for the Food Bank of South Jersey. Two large bins of different food staples were collected and provided to the organization, which we have been partnering with for three years.

We also hold an annual toiletry drive for the homeless and less fortunate in New Jersey during the holidays, and adopted two families through Legacy Treatment Center.

Montgomeryville
The Malvern School of Montgomeryville is proud to be working with Baby Bundles this winter. Baby Bundles is a nonprofit organization – started by one of our summer infant teachers, Maria – that helps to provide basic needs and support for mothers and their babies, including clothes, baby gear and other necessities. These bundles represent hope for expecting mothers, especially those on the margins of society.

Oaks
From December 6-21, The Malvern School of Oaks will be collecting food and toiletries that are on the “Hot List” for Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS). PACS’s mission is to end poverty in the community by connecting people in need with resources for food security, financial stability and better health.

Richboro
The Malvern School of Richboro is hosting a gift card drive for Bethanna to help brighten the holiday season for children in foster care. We’re in the process of collecting gift cards now, so let us know if you’d like to contribute!

Robbinsville
The Malvern School of Robbinsville is running a mitten, scarf and hat collection with a “Mitten Tree.” Families who wish to donate warm weather gear can hang it from the tree in the lobby and it will be delivered to a charitable organization before the holidays.

West Norriton
The Malvern School of West Norriton is on the heels of hosting its first-ever shoe drive, and we’re incredibly proud to have helped raise 500 pairs of shoes! This initiative was brought to our attention by one of our families and we were happy to participate.

The West Norriton School also just hosted a bingo night to help raise money for one of our teachers whose family home suffered severe fire damage. With the support of our Malvern families, we were able to raise $1,000 to help their recovery efforts.
