As students, families, and teachers are settling into the daily school routine, one of our newest programs, S.T.E.A.M., is catching momentum! S.T.E.A.M. is an enrichment program that focuses on
Science,
Technology,
Engineering,
Art, and
Mathematics. More than just an academic program, S.T.E.A.M. gives our Pre-Kindergarten students the opportunity to integrate critical thinking skills to solve real world problems. Teachers plan activities designed to build upon each students math and science base as well as use concepts which allow them to develop problem solving skills. Our teachers have been hard at work preparing and implementing exciting new activities using unique and non-traditional materials. One of the most anticipated activities is building on the light cube. Children get to use creativity and engineering skills to design their own projects and watch them glow in the light of the cube! The Pre-Kindergarten classes also get to explore science concepts with magnetic blocks, magnifying glasses, binoculars, view scopes, and a variety of other manipulative materials. Each week, a new S.T.E.A.M. story is introduced and the enrichment activities center around that story. This week, the children were given the opportunity to act out scenes from the story with their friends and use a real digital camera to take pictures! Each child was delighted to take a turn playing photographer to their friends. We have some budding artists for sure! Here, at the Malvern School of Glen Mills, we are really looking forward to seeing how our Pre-Kindergarten students respond to the upcoming fresh and exciting stories, activities, and concepts!
