The Malvern School and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Celebrate 10 Years of Squeezing Fresh Lemonade Together

Friday, June 9 is Alex’s Lemonade Stand Day at all Malvern school locations

The Malvern School sets goal to raise $110,000 in 2017 for the Fight Against Childhood Cancer

GLEN MILLS, Pa. and BALA CYNWYD, Pa. — May 18, 2017 – For the past 10 years, The Malvern School, a leader in early childhood education, has partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), to support the nonprofit in its fight against pediatric cancer. To commemorate the 10th year of this partnership, The Malvern School has set a goal to raise $110,000 in 2017. In addition to hosting various family events throughout the year, The Malvern School will host its annual Lemonade Stand Day on Friday, June 9, during Alex’s Lemonade Days (June 3 to 11). All 25 school locations throughout Pennsylvania and  New Jersey will sell cold, fresh lemonade outside their schools with all proceeds benefiting childhood cancer research – just like Alex did in the year 2000.

Each year, from April through July, The Malvern School raises awareness and funds on behalf of ALSF through various events, raffles, and community partnerships. To date, The Malvern School has raised more than $530,000 to support ALSF’s mission to fund research into new treatments and cures, and to encourage and empower others – especially children – to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer. The legacy began when founder, and then four-year old, Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996–2004), held her first lemonade stand in her front yard inspiring her namesake foundation and a legacy of hope to find a cure for childhood cancer.

“We are privileged and honored to be partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for the past 10 years,” said Kristen M. Waterfield, president and co-founder of The Malvern School. “Alex’s life and mission is an inspiration of hope. It is the hope that Alex spread during her time with us that continues our fight today to help find a cure for all children with cancer.”

In addition to hosting various school and community events and its Lemonade Stand Day on June 9, The Malvern School is taking its fight against childhood cancer online with the launch of the “Pucker Up for Alex Facebook Challenge.” Beginning June 1, the public is invited to upload photos to The Malvern School’s Facebook page of themselves making a “puckered expression”. For each photo submitted, The Malvern School will donate $1 to ALSF and for each photo shared, the early childhood provider will donate $2.

The Malvern School also raises funds through a Virtual Lemonade Stand as a way for friends, family, neighbors and colleagues to donate to ALSF on behalf of a specific school location or a child at that school.  Donors are encouraged to share special messages and to upload photos or videos.

“We are excited to celebrate Lemonade Stand Day with The Malvern School again this year,” said Liz Scott, co-executive director of ALSF and Alex’s mom. “We greatly appreciate the generosity of The Malvern School over the last 10 years and we look forward to another successful fundraiser, bringing us closer to finding cures for all kids with cancer.”

About The Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $140 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 690 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
